Metropolitan State University of Denver is upgrading its student-information system, replacing the current SIS, Ellucian Banner, with Workday Student. The University has entered the Strategy and Readiness phase, preparing for the multiyear transition and laying the groundwork for an enhanced digital experience for students, faculty and staff.
What is Workday Student?
Workday Student is a modern, cloud-based SIS that manages various aspects of student life, including admissions, registration, academic advising, financial aid and student accounts. The system aims to transform the student digital experience by streamlining processes and improving data accuracy.
Where are we in the overall Workday Student timeline?

What do strategy and readiness entail?
The Strategy and Readiness phase is the critical first step in the implementation of Workday Student. Over the next few months, the University will focus on several key activities to ensure a smooth and successful transition to the new system. These activities include:
- Project planning, resourcing and governance: Establishing a project plan, governance structure, goals, timelines, milestones and resourcing project team members.
- Stakeholder engagement: Gathering input and feedback from University constituents to shape the implementation strategy.
- Change management: Developing a plan for communication, training and change enablement to ensure that users are well-informed and equipped to use the new system effectively.
- Business Process Alignment: Identifying differences among our current student support systems and processes while finding future areas of improvement within Workday Student.
- Data readiness: Assessing current data and planning its migration to ensure integrity and accuracy.
- Technical readiness: Evaluating technical infrastructure, including hardware, software, network capabilities and system integrations.
- Risk management: Identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies, including risk assessments and contingency plans.
