Longtime Student Affairs leader Megan Scherzberg, Ph.D., has been named interim associate vice president for Enrollment Management, effective April 11.

Scherzberg, who has been part of the Metropolitan State University of Denver community for more than nine years, currently serves as executive director of Orientation, Transfer and Reengagement. In her new role, she will help lead the University’s enrollment strategy while continuing key initiatives meeting the University’s 2030 Strategic Plan goals for enrollment and retention.

The move highlights the University’s internal leadership strength, said Will Simpkins, Ed.D., vice president for Student Affairs.

“Megan brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to student success,” Simpkins said. “She has been a key leader in our enrollment-growth strategies, particularly in expanding transfer-success pipelines and increasing first-year-student retention.”

Before joining MSU Denver, Scherzberg held positions at Des Moines Area Community College and the University of Kansas. As interim AVP, she will co-chair the University’s Strategic Enrollment Management initiative, support the implementation of the new student-information system and continue a focus on fall 2027 reenrollment.

A moment of transition

Scherzberg steps into the role as Long Huynh, DBA, prepares to step down as chief enrollment officer. Huynh’s last day at MSU Denver will be Thursday.

“This is a bittersweet moment, as I have deeply valued the time that I’ve spent working with all of you,” Huynh said in a message to colleagues. “Together, we’ve seen some remarkable achievements in student enrollment, retention and financial aid — and it’s been a privilege to contribute to these successes.”

In commending Huynh’s leadership, Simpkins highlighted his work to “stop the drop” and “bend the curve” in enrollment over the past two years.

“His efforts supported the stabilization of our enrollment systems and ensured that departments like Financial Aid weathered mighty storms,” Simpkins said.

Looking ahead

While Scherzberg will serve in an interim AVP capacity, no final decision has been made regarding the position of chief enrollment officer. University leaders will take the time to thoughtfully assess the best structure to support the Enrollment Management team in continuing its outstanding work.
