Based on feedback during the 2022 internal communications audit, Metropolitan State University of Denver has been making strides to improve its website, specifically through navigation and “findability.”
The University website is designed to accommodate many audiences, including prospective students, current students, faculty members, staff members, alumni and more. However, the homepage is designed to deliver information to prospective students to help with their decision to attend MSU Denver. Improvements to the main menu and search function allow all audiences to find the information they are looking for.
Phase I, addressing search and new main-menu placement, has been completed.
The University has now begun Phase II, which reorganizes drop-down menus and considers new phrasing options that appeal to prospective students.
Key changes:
- There is a new search function enhanced by Google search.
- The University main menu has moved from the left of the page to the top of the website.
- Users can now see main-menu categories without having to click into them.
- New and important options — including Spanish content, events and the campus map/tour — have fixed placement in the global navigation, making it much easier to find key resources from any page on the website.
- “I am a” options have been consolidated without a loss of representation in the new navigational structure.
- Popular links have been elevated on the search landing page.
