Last week, students, employees and alumni came to campus for a week of momentous Homecoming events at Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Organized by Alumni Relations, this year’s events brought out 368 alumni across 19 events, which hit a record for attendees with nearly 1,500 total Roadrunners in attendance.
The festivities began with a Latinx Heritage Month Kick-Off on Sept. 14, followed by the sixth annual Women of MSU Denver Leadership Night and fifth annual Homecoming Mug Club Happy Hour in the following days. Thursday, an under-the-stars drive-in “Shrek” screening in celebration of the movie’s 25th anniversary brought out current and former Roadrunners, including some in Shrek costumes.
The weekend brought the Homecoming Tailgate and games, where the Women’s Volleyball team defeated Westminster University, 3-0, Saturday, and Men’s Soccer defeated the Griffins, 2-0, Sunday.
The week ended with the 10th annual Roadrunners 5K on Sunday, which saw record turnout of more than 200 participants. The $8,000 raised from 248 registrations will support the Cross Country program.
At the Alumni Award Luncheon, 14 awards included the Top 10 Under 10, Alumni Volunteer of the Year, Alumni Philanthropist of the Year and Distinguished Alumni of the Year.
