MSU Denver employees can continue to commute for free in 2024

The University will once again offer Regional Transportation District EcoPasses to faculty and staff members.

Metropolitan State University of Denver will continue to make Regional Transportation District EcoPasses free to faculty members and professional and classified staff members through Dec. 31, 2024. The University has covered the cost of RTD EcoPasses as an additional benefit for professional employees, who total more than 3,000, since July 2021.

Larry Sampler.

“Meeting our mission is impossible without our dedicated and hardworking faculty and staff members,” said Larry Sampler, chief operating officer and vice president for Administration. “Benefits like this are part of our continued commitment to and recognition of our invaluable employees.”

For current EcoPass holders:

The 2023 EcoPass will automatically renew and will be valid for free bus, light-rail and commuter-rail service through Dec. 31, 2024.

However, as RTD is transitioning its Smartcard system to a new account-based ticketing system, users will receive their EcoPass on their phones as a mobile QR code. Current EcoPass holders should have transitioned their existing accounts by the Dec. 1 deadline.

Employees who still wish to use a physical card must complete an Auraria EcoPass Authorization Form at the Parking Office and have their account associated with a campus institution prior to going to an RTD sales outlet. See instructions and details on the Auraria Higher Education Center website.
