MSU Denver begins comprehensive review of Workday implementation

COO outlines construction progress and the multipronged approach to measuring successes and areas of opportunity.

Dear Roadrunners,

Shifting many of our business and Human Resources functions to an entirely new system, Workday, was a significant undertaking, and we would be remiss if we did not thoroughly consider how the process impacted employees, efficiency and operations.

To that end, MSU Denver has engaged consulting firm Continuum to conduct a retrospective look at the Workday transition and implementation process. This five-phase review is about learning from the past to better inform the future. It will help MSU Denver identify and replicate what worked, pinpoint areas of opportunity and prioritize solutions. The approach will be broad and inclusive, including:

  • Data-gathering
  • An employee survey
  • One-on-one interviews with key constituents
  • Focus groups

Ultimately, what we learn will be presented in an action-and-accountability plan that will be shared with the University community. Most importantly, we will integrate those findings into process-improvement initiatives.

This analysis is just now getting underway. Look for an email Monday that will include a secure link to the anonymous employee survey.

I again want to thank all members of the campus community for embracing the new Workday system, and I especially want to thank all those involved in the implementation process.

I commit to providing periodic updates throughout the analysis, and I look forward to hearing your feedback.

PeopleAdmin update

As of Nov. 1, PeopleAdmin is no longer supported by MSU Denver as an active ATS (Applicant Tracking System) platform. The link to access PeopleAdmin has been deactivated. The change in service means users will need to contact their designated senior HR partner or HR partners to get a copy of their position description and any other information from the system, as only these users have access. The HR Department will transition active employees’ position descriptions into Workday; no additional work by the employee is required at this time.

Health Institute Simulation Labs progress

Construction continues in the West Classroom Building to establish the new Health Institute Simulation Labs. Please refer to the maps on the project’s SharePoint page and posted in the building to safely navigate around the construction zone.

Construction is nearing completion on the third floor of the Administration Building to establish new homes for the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology and the Center for Teaching, Learning and Design. Please reference the information and flyers available on the SharePoint page, which I encourage you to share with your teams and to post within your spaces, as we can all help support communication around this significant project.

While you’re on the SharePoint page, take a moment to read the bios of several key members of the Howell Construction project team who are responsible for the transformation of these spaces. They bring so much passion and experience to this project, so if you see them around campus, please give them a warm MSU Denver welcome.

Construction progress and schedule:

  • Administration Building third-floor construction Suite 310 (Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology) – nearing completion.
  • Administration Building third-floor construction Suites 326 and 360 (Center for Teaching, Learning and Design) – nearing completion.
  • West Classroom second-floor demolition – nearing completion.
  • Through June 2024: West Classroom Building second floor and Central Classroom Building Suites 105 and 220 remodel construction (Sim Labs, Nutrition, HEP, TPS and OIS).
  • March-August 2024: Auraria Higher Education Center Project B, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Upgrade, full closure of West and Central Classroom buildings.
