Last February, Information Technology Services at Metropolitan State University of Denver implemented the Amazon Business Guided Buying Program, which restricted items on the Amazon Business Education platform and required review and approval from ITS for purchasing certain items.
Starting Jan. 20, if you’re using a corporate p-card to buy tech items on Amazon, there will be a new approval process in place. ITS will need to review and give the green light before certain technology-related purchases can go through.
Why the change?
The goal is to make sure all purchases match MSU Denver’s procurement policies and tech standards. This also helps streamline things so we’re all on the same page when it comes to technology orders.
How does it work?
If you try to purchase a restricted technology item, you’ll see a message that looks something like this:
IT Category Restriction: This item may not comply with MSU Denver technology purchasing standards and requires review. Please proceed to the order step and add comments for ITS review.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Continue with your purchase.
- When you get to the checkout page, add any relevant comments. This could include an approved TDX ticket number or a quick note on why you need the item and how you’ll use it.
- Submit the request and let ITS handle the rest.
What happens next?
- ITS will review the request within two business days.
- If approved, your order will move forward automatically.
- If not approved, ITS will provide feedback on why and outline your next steps. You’ll get this info in your Amazon account and by email.
Why this matters
We know this adds an extra step, but the idea is to make sure we’re all purchasing tech that fits University guidelines. In the long run, this should help things move faster and avoid hiccups down the line.
If you have any questions or need help with the process, feel free to contact ITS. We’re here to help!
