At Metropolitan State University of Denver, caring for employees is more than a priority —it’s part of the University’s identity. As the 2024-25 fiscal year comes to a close, MSU Denver is highlighting its leave policies while encouraging employees to review their balances and make the most of their earned time off.
“At MSU Denver, we believe that sustainable excellence stems from a supported workforce,” said Amanda Berry, executive director of Total Rewards. “Time away from work isn’t just beneficial for personal well-being; it’s vital for maintaining professional focus and long-term productivity. Our flexible and generous leave policies reflect our deep commitment to fostering a healthy work-life balance for all employees.”
Each month, eligible employees accrue 16 hours of annual leave and 16 hours of sick leave, with allowances for variations based on full-time equivalency. Both leave types offer a maximum carryover of 320 hours, providing ample opportunity to plan restorative time away throughout the year.
Act now: fiscal year-end leave reminders
As the June 30 fiscal-year deadline approaches, employees are urged to take proactive steps to avoid forfeiting accrued time:
To check their leave balances and stay on top of totals, employees should:

- Click Absence under the blue banner on the right-hand side.
- In the Absence Worklet, select Request Absence, then adjust the “Balance as of date” on the left-hand side to view leave balances as of a specific date.
Leave Bank donations

To contribute:

More time to recharge: MSU Denver’s holiday schedule
In addition to leave policies, MSU Denver offers 13 paid holidays each year and follows an alternate holiday schedule designed to align with employee needs and academic demands. For instance, while many organizations observed Presidents Day on Feb. 17, MSU Denver reallocates that day to Dec. 26, extending the Winter Break.
A five-year holiday calendar is available to help employees plan and balance personal and professional priorities.
“As June 30 approaches,” Berry said, “the University encourages its employees to use this moment not only to check balances and meet deadlines but also to reflect on personal wellness and explore the variety of benefits available to support our people.”
