CNN commentator to deliver two keynote addresses in April 

Author and activist Van Jones headlines MSU Denver’s 2025 Rachel B. Noel Distinguished Visiting Professor events, which have been moved to spring.

Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Rachel B. Noel Distinguished Visiting Professorship is back this spring with guest Van Jones, a CNN political commentator, author and social entrepreneur. Jones will visit campus April 18 for two keynote addresses, emceed by Emmy Award-winning journalist Tamara Banks. 

Jones, a two-time New York Times bestselling author and award-winning journalist, is known for his work in criminal-justice reform, social advocacy and bridging political divides.  

Typically taking place in February or March, program events were rescheduled this year to April because of the recent wildfires in Los Angeles. 

More than 40 years of honoring Rachel B. Noel’s legacy 

The Rachel B. Noel Distinguished Visiting Professorship was initiated in 1981 to foster multiculturalism, diversity and academic excellence. The professorship brings renowned scholars and artists of distinction to MSU Denver to conduct classes, seminars, performances and lectures for students, faculty and metro Denver. 

Rachel B. Noel Distinguished Visiting Professors have included Princeton Professor Cornel West, pianist Billy Taylor, author Iyanla Vanzant, former President of Spelman College Johnetta Cole, jazz singer Diane Reeves, the late actor and civil-rights activist Ossie Davis and executive editor of Ebony magazine Lerone Bennett Jr.
