Information Technology Services has scheduled a network upgrade for the Administration Building over Fall Break to enhance Metropolitan State University of Denver’s network reliability and speed. The upgrade will take place Nov. 23-25, with a testing period continuing through Nov. 27.

These dates were chosen to limit disruption during the break, ensuring minimal impact on regular campus activities.

During this period, MSU Denver phone and internet connections (both wired and wireless) will be unavailable on all floors of the Administration Building. Employees who work in the building should plan to work remotely or from another campus building to avoid interruptions.

Due to their importance to campus operations and safety, the Auraria Campus Police Department and Auraria Higher Education Center Distribution and Receiving have made special arrangements with AHEC to maintain Wi-Fi connection and will maintain normal operations.

The work will replace end-of-life and near-end-of-life network equipment, including switches and wireless access points, and is Phase Two of the partial network upgrade completed last summer. Similar work has already been done in several buildings across campus, including Central Classroom, PE, Arts and the Jordan Student Success Building, resulting in measurable improvements in Wi-Fi speed, coverage and connectivity.

Several of the University’s off-campus buildings have also been scheduled for complete upgrades of their wired and wireless infrastructure. Kalamath Music, Quigg Newton and the Center for Visual Arts were upgraded over the past two weeks. The Colorado Center for Medical Laboratory Science is yet to be scheduled.

The Network Modernization Initiative will improve MSU Denver’s network and wireless environments by addressing issues with deferred maintenance and outdated network infrastructure. This project will replace wireless access points and edge/access and distribution-layer switches in multiple buildings across campus. These improvements will provide a more robust and stable network environment capable of supporting the University’s evolving needs.
