Numerous Metropolitan State University of Denver offices and teams work together throughout the year to keep students and employees safe and informed. To help ensure another successful semester, Roadrunners are encouraged to review the following tips and reminders:

Update emergency-contact information and stay in the loop

The Auraria Campus Police Department and the Auraria Higher Education Center Office of Emergency Management work quickly to communicate to all students and employees in the event of a campus emergency or safety incident via the Auraria Alert Emergency Notification System. The system is like a reverse 911 call and delivers text and email notifications to faculty members, staff members and students with important safety information and directives.

MSU Denver faculty members, staff members and students are automatically enrolled in the notification system but should review their contact information each semester.

Please visit this emergency-communication webpage to register, review and/or update your information. Log in using your MSU Denver email address and password. Use the “forgot password” link if you have problems logging in.

In response to community feedback, AHEC, MSU Denver and other institutions on campus have implemented new and improved emergency-notification language to ensure a unified approach to crisis response, focusing on clearer and more consistent language and directives.

Review or create a Departmental Emergency Procedures Plan

Additionally, September is Emergency Preparedness Month, a great time for all MSU Denver offices to create or update their Departmental Emergency Procedures Plan.

To get started, visit the Department of Facilities’ Emergency Preparedness page and download the Departmental Emergency Procedures Plan template to develop a clear plan of action for shelter locations, evacuation routes, rally points and emergency-contact lists.

Winter is coming

It’s hard to imagine with this month’s sweltering temperatures, but winter-weather-related delays and full and partial closures will be here soon. Generally, full-day closure and delay decisions are determined before 6 a.m. In the event of a campus closure, delayed start or early dismissal, students and employees will receive a text message and/or email from the RAVE Emergency Notification Alert System with current information. Auraria Campus on a snowy morning

More ways to stay prepared

  • Ensure that your emergency-contact information is up to date through the Personal Information section of Workday.
  • Ensure that your office maintains an updated list of employee contact information and where team members are working — on campus or remotely.
  • Bookmark the University’s Emergency Communications webpage, and in an actual emergency, share only official, validated information.
  • Do not place discarded furniture or equipment in hallways as they can present a fire hazard. Instead, please submit a work order with Worktags to the Auraria Higher Education Center.

Watch for upcoming safety trainings

The Auraria Campus Police Department and the Office of Emergency Management offer a variety of free training opportunities to Auraria Campus students, faculty members and staff members. Visit the AHEC website for information on trainings, including:

  • Active Harmer Preparedness Training
The goal of these training opportunities is to help you feel empowered and prepared in the unlikely event of an active-harmer incident on campus.
  • Stop the Bleed®
Stop the Bleed® (Civilian Trauma Training) teaches participants basic lifesaving medical interventions.
  • Adult CPR/first-aid/AED training
The MSU Denver Department of Facilities is sponsoring training that will prepare you to recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first-aid emergencies.
