As students juggle classes and make decisions along their educational journeys, professors and mentors this week can drive students to keep track of their goals with the Rowdy Pit Stop.
The Pit Stop offers students a checklist of steps to create an Academic Plan and make sure their Degree Progress Report (DPR) aligns with it. The DPR identifies academic requirements, lists transfer and repeated course credits, and shows how current coursework would apply to different programs.
The official check-in date is Sunday, which means now is the time to take those steps and schedule an appointment with an advisor if they need guidance. The Pit Stop occurs on March 15 and Oct. 15 each year.
The initiative helps students prevent unexpected barriers to degree completion, especially those related to course requirements to graduate. Participating and meeting with advisors is one of the easiest, most effective ways to ensure students aren’t overpaying or spending time earning unnecessary credits for their degree requirements.
How faculty and staff can help:
- Direct students to the Rowdy Pit Stop website.
- Announce the initiative in classes and spread the word among student employees,
- Become familiar with the three steps to check a DPR in case students have questions.
- Add the Rowdy Pit Stop dates, Oct. 15 and March 15, to your office or department’s annual calendar.
- Share this flyer with the three steps to stay on track.
