As part of its ongoing commitment to campus health and well-being, the Health Center at Auraria has expanded its services this spring.
“Our goal is to ensure that everyone in the Auraria community has timely access to quality, affordable health care,” said Richard Miccio, associate director of Well-being, Inclusion, and Behavioral Intervention at the Health Center at Auraria.
Expanded services to meet growing needs
The Health Center first introduced telehealth services during the Covid-19 pandemic, primarily for psychiatric care. Now, some medical services are also available virtually, offering more flexibility for faculty and staff members.
To improve mental-health support, the Health Center has added two psychiatric mental-health nurse practitioners, significantly reducing wait times for psychiatric care. Available to all campus members, these services are free for Metropolitan State University of Denver students through the Health and Wellness fee.
Nutrition counseling has also expanded, with a full-time Registered Dietitian Nutritionist now available to provide personalized support for faculty and staff members and students. “A nutritionist can support campus members who are managing a chronic condition, want to optimize athletic performance, lose or gain weight or are simply looking for better eating habits,” Miccio said. “With our dietitian available full time, campus members can now take advantage of these services at no cost, regardless of their insurance coverage.”
Affordable, accessible care
The Health Center remains committed to affordable, culturally responsive care. It is in-network with most major insurance providers, including Colorado Medicaid, and offers up to a 50% discount for uninsured or underinsured individuals.
