Health Center at Auraria, Auraria Recovery Community form partnership

The peer-led, nonclinical recovery program plans to expand on the Auraria Campus.

Road to recovery

The Health Center at Auraria has assumed administrative oversight of the Auraria Recovery Community. This collaboration ensures that the peer-led collegiate recovery program has a sustainable future.

Established in 2018, the nonclinical recovery program has been offering recovery meetings to support students with substance and other process addictions. It also coordinates social gatherings, community spaces and training/education opportunities for students in the Auraria community. The ARC is registered as a Collegiate Recovery Program with the Association of Recovery in Higher Education and is unique in its efforts to support a tri-institutional campus.

With new oversight from the Health Center at Auraria, the ARC will have expanded opportunities to make an impact on a tri-institutional level. The Health Center and ARC hope to make Metropolitan State University of Denver and the Auraria Campus a place where students in recovery, or those who are sober-curious, can find support and a sense of community among their peers.

Opportunities for faculty and staff members

While the ARC is student-facing, there are plans to expand the program to faculty and staff through trainings, classroom presentations and other campus engagement opportunities. One existing opportunity is the Opioid Overdose Response Training, which is held once a month through Zoom.  Others may include a “Recovery 101” classroom presentation and “Recovery Ally Training.”
