President’s Speaker Series With Fiona Hill, Ph.D.
Wednesday
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Fiona Hill, Ph.D., wrote the book on Vladimir Putin – her 2013 Putin biography framed Russia’s trajectory since the fall of the Soviet Union and explored the Russian president’s long-term ambitions. With Russia now at war with Ukraine, the foreign policy expert and former White House advisor will explain what led us to this moment, what’s next for Ukraine, and what underlying conditions create space for geopolitical conflicts across the globe.
Please note, the in-person event has reached full capacity, however, you can tune in live to the event co-moderated by Janine Davidson, Ph.D., president of MSU Denver, and Daniel Kurtz-Phelan, editor of Foreign Affairs.
Social Work fentanyl panel discussion with state Rep. Leslie Herod
Thursday
6 p.m.
Tivoli Turnhalle
Registration not required
Please join Rep. Leslie Herod and a panel of esteem faculty and guests in a collaborative conversation to discuss the rising concern about the powerful opioid fentanyl and overdoses in metro Denver. The potency of fentanyl and the lethality of very small amounts place all individuals who encounter this drug at great risk. With rising overdoses and deaths, we must explore the reality of casual use and addictions in our communities. The purpose of the fentanyl panel is to engage private citizens, casual users, clinicians, advocates, legislators, academics and researchers in responses to address the needs of our communities.
The event will focus on fentanyl exposure and overdoses in the Denver Metro area with an emphasis on:
- The reality of addiction and casual use
- The ease of fentanyl to be used to lace other drugs and the small amount required for an overdose
- The realities of treatment
- Barriers to access to treatment
- Potential solutions
