Are you a Metropolitan State University of Denver instructor who is concerned about the impact of high textbook costs on your students? The expense of some course materials can be a barrier to student success, and students can be frustrated when asked to purchase pricey materials they don’t robustly use.
OER is a potential solution. Faculty members can earn up to $1,450 for attending OER trainings and adopting OER this spring.
Faculty members are encouraged to explore possible open-textbook solutions by attending a 90-minute virtual workshop and writing a short textbook review. Participating faculty members will receive a $200 stipend after attending the workshop and writing a review of an open textbook in the Open Textbook Library.
Faculty members are also encouraged to explore OER and how to use such resources in your courses with friendly colleagues in the Spring 2024 OER Faculty Learning Community, which will meet every two weeks on Fridays from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. via Teams starting this Friday. There is a $500 stipend for attending at least five of the seven sessions. This session will be co-facilitated by Emily Ragan, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Brian Healy, M.A., lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies.
Faculty members who use OER as the primary resource for a course for the first time this spring, or who are preparing for primary OER use in a course in the fall, are also encouraged to apply for a $750 OER adoption mini-grant.
