Employees will have an opportunity to inspire new generations, recruit future Roadrunners and position MSU Denver as a positive workplace, while modeling the value of community, said Imani Morning, director of Leadership and Organizational Engagement.
MSU Denver encourages departments to host and communicate individual events to welcome, support and engage employees and their families. While centralized programming will not be facilitated by the Office of Human Resources this year, the following opportunities are available:
- Welcome bags will be available for pickup at the Human Resources front desk between 8 a.m. and noon, while supplies last. The desk is in Jordan Student Success Building Suite 310.
- A rocket launch, hosted by Mark Yoss, director of the Advanced Manufacturing Sciences Institute, will be in Aerospace and Engineering Sciences Building Room 160 from 8 a.m. to noon.
- A junk art challenge, hosted by the VP of Administration office, will be hosted from 9 a.m. to noon, while supplies last. Children are invited to let their creativity shine by using random recyclables to design and build anything they can imagine. The activity will be held in the Jordan Student Success Building Suite 310.
Resources for hosting an event
Departments and teams hosting an event can reference the activity guides provided by Junior Achievement, the organizer of the national event. Additional ideas to consider include:
- Setting up a snack or breakfast bar.
- Hosting a mock meeting where parents and children can attend and hear team members summarize their roles.
- Coordinating a group tour of campus.
- Stocking an activity corner with games, coloring books and other quiet activities.
- Setting up a photo booth to capture the moment (providing office-attire and work-related props).
Invite your team — don’t forget to share the details of your event with your full department and invite families to attend. Consider collecting RSVPs to inform the number of supplies needed or ensure that you place accurate catering/food-delivery orders.
Tips for parents planning to attend
If you plan to participate, please check with your department or office to confirm whether any activities are being coordinated. Additionally, consider the following tips:
- Let your supervisor know in advance.
- Schedule a lunch with other participating families in your office.
- Try to minimize meetings.
- Take your child on a campus tour or scavenger hunt.
- Have your child design their own name tag.
- Have your child create a résumé that highlights their talents and interests.
- Bring an activity kit from home with some favorite toys, books, etc.
Share your best shots
On the day of the event, capture the moment by taking individual and team photos. Submit your best shots to the University Communications and Marketing team here. A gallery of photos will be posted on the Early Bird site following the event.
The Office of Human Resources is committed to elevating this offering as part of an overall effort to deliver an exceptional employee experience and realize our Strategic Plan goal of becoming the most desired workplace by 2030.
