This election season has brought emotionally charged issues and passionate arguments from all sides, making it all the more important to engage in open civil discourse. In the spirit of respectful and productive dialogue, Metropolitan State University of Denver is hosting a unique event that will bring together a bipartisan panel of Colorado legislators to model civil discourse in real time.
Colorado state Reps. Shannon Bird (D) and Rick Taggart (R) and state Sens. Kyle Mullica (D) and Barbara Kirkmeyer (R) will come together Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Center for Advanced Visualization and Experiential Analysis in the Jordan Student Success Building for a bipartisan discussion moderated by MSU Denver President Janine Davidson, Ph.D. This conversation will showcase how leaders from different political backgrounds can engage with one another, work through differences and arrive at meaningful solutions for the people of Colorado.
“The best policy is made when multiple perspectives are considered and taken into account,” said Kaycee Gerhart, vice president of Government and External Affairs. “Our students and faculty and staff members at MSU Denver play a vital role in creating a community that values civil engagement and thoughtful dialogue. This event is a unique opportunity to witness the everyday practice of this skill by legislators, as they share their varying perspectives, discuss key issues and explore paths forward in service to all Coloradans.”
