A busy season on the Auraria Campus

Athletic complex at the beginnng of renovation on summer 2022. June 15.

Dear Roadrunners,

Summer historically might have been a quieter time on the Auraria Campus, but with courses resuming, construction projects in full swing and Colorado Avalanche Watch Parties taking place on the Tivoli Quad, things are looking busy.

Improvement projects are progressing

The summer Academic Space Improvement Project — which will primarily focus on audiovisual equipment, new furniture, lighting, acoustics and signage — is underway. Most work will be completed by the start of the fall semester, and any work that continues beyond then will be minor and completed outside of general operating hours.

Additionally, improvements are in progress at the Assembly Athletics Center, specifically:

  • Rocky Mountain Turf Solutions has completed removal of turf from the softball field and is currently removing the soccer-field turf. New turf will be installed for the softball field starting Monday, and installation of new turf for the soccer field will begin June 27.
  • Sports lighting contractor Qualite will begin removing existing light poles from the softball field Saturday and will install new lighting at the softball field Wednesday. Removal and installation of soccer-field lights will begin June 24, and removal and installation of baseball lights will begin the last week of June, with anticipated completion July 2.

Please look for updates on these projects throughout the summer as MSU Denver works to offer working and learning environments that truly reflect the quality of our institution. For questions related to these improvement projects, please email [email protected].

Watch Party impacts to campus access, parking and more

The Auraria Campus is the site of the Colorado Avalanche Pepsi Zero Sugar Watch Parties on the Tivoli Quad for all Avalanche home and away games in the Stanley Cup Finals. MSU Denver will continue business operations, but an event of this scope, especially across multiple days, will certainly have impacts. More information on event operations and schedules, campus closures and transportation will be posted on the Auraria Higher Education Center announcements webpage. You can also follow the Early Bird for more specific information as it becomes available.

Building access

Multiple campus buildings will have restricted access and adjusted hours on game days. MSU Denver faculty and staff members should reference the full listing of all game-day impacts in the Early Bird for more details.

Parking

Standard parking policies remain in place. Vehicles that are registered with the AHEC Parking Office will not be subject to event-specific parking rates, which begin after 3 p.m. Event rates will be $20 for lots and $25 in the Tivoli Garage. Please note that you must pay at a pay station during the event hours. If you pay using the ParkMobile app, you will be charged the special event rate. Contact AHEC Parking to learn how to register your vehicle and find more information regarding permits, rates and access.

Street closures

Road closures go into effect at 3:30 p.m. on event days, except for Saturday when closures will begin at 2 p.m. Walnut Street will be closed from 12th Street through 10th Street during the duration of the series, and other streets will be temporarily closed as needed. Please review the Early Bird article for specifics.

Safety information

Please report any incidents or emergencies by phone at 303-556-5000 or text 720-593-TIPS (8477). Stay tuned to the AHEC announcements page for the latest information.

Denver moves to high Covid-19 risk level

The City and County of Denver is now an area of high transmission of Covid-19, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Denver has been moved to the high-risk level for community transmission

With this rise, we must stay diligent in safeguarding our health and that of those around us. Please:

  • Stay up to date with Covid-19 vaccines.
  • Get your second boosterwhen eligible, for free at the Health Center at Auraria. Eligibility includes those who are 50 and over or are immunosuppressed with at least four months having passed since their last booster.
  • If you have symptoms, stay home and get tested at the Health Center at Auraria or use one of the many free communitypharmacy and at-home testing options. Please review the Healthy Families Workplace Act for more information on leave related to a declared public-health emergency.
  • Consider wearing a mask indoors in public. Be kind to others and wear a mask, if asked. Individual masks are available at the Jordan Student Success Building Welcome Desk, and you can request larger quantities for your office by emailing [email protected]
  • Self-assess symptoms before and after travel. Check your health insurance before international trips to ensure that you have the coverage you need during your travels.

Sincerely,
