Metropolitan State University of Denver and Emily Griffith Technical College have partnered to provide a seamless transition for apprentices from Emily Griffith’s Registered Apprenticeship programs into MSU Denver. In alignment with MSU Denver’s 2030 Strategic Plan, focus on student success and goal to be the top choice institution for transfer students, the partnership will create pathways for all of Emily Griffith’s Department of Labor Registered Apprentices into MSU Denver degree programs.
Celebration details
Roadrunners are invited to attend kick off celebration to mark the new partnership:
- Sept. 7 at 10:30 a.m.
- Jordan Student Success Building.
- The celebration will also include an articulation agreement signing and remarks from institutional leaders.
“There’s a renewed focus in Colorado and nationally to ‘blur the lines’ between K-12, higher education and the workforce, and this is the kind of innovative partnership that will help us do that,” said Provost Ad Interim Marie Mora, Ph.D. “This is an excellent example of how we’re meeting students where they are, through establishing new education and employment pathways that lead to the high demand jobs our industry partners are looking to fill.”
Apprenticeship programs provide on-the-job training supervised by a skilled craftsperson during the day and focus on classroom instruction in the evenings. Emily Griffith offers 11 apprenticeship programs for carpentry, plumbing and electrical, but also provides apprenticeship opportunities for voice data video technician sand certified line cooks. Upon completion, apprentices receive a portable, nationally recognized credential from the U.S. Department of Labor.
“There are currently over 4,700 apprentices in Emily Griffith’s apprenticeship division who could participate in this seamless transition program, helping students easily continue their education past their time at Emily Griffith,” said Linda Van Doren, Ed.D., vice president of education at Emily Griffith. “This degree pathway partnership between our institutions creates an opportunity for a student to embark on an earn-and-learn pathway that includes registered apprenticeship, a four-year degree and industry-recognized credentials.”
