Metropolitan State University of Denver’s 7th Street Classroom building will undergo a network upgrade March 24-27 as part of the University’s ongoing Network Modernization Initiative. During this time, wired and wireless internet, as well as phone connections, will be unavailable in the building. Employees should plan to work remotely or from another campus location.
The upgrade is part of Phase IV of the multiyear initiative to replace outdated network equipment across the Auraria Campus. Originally funded by a three-year grant from Colorado’s Joint Technology Committee, the project was set to conclude in 2024. However, new funding from the Auraria Higher Education Center will allow the initiative to continue into 2025 and potentially beyond.
To reduce the impact on students, faculty and staff, the upgrade is scheduled over Spring Break, ensuring that the necessary infrastructure improvements can be completed with minimal disruption.
What’s changing?
The upgrade will replace aging network switches and wireless access points to improve internet speed, coverage and reliability. Previous phases of the initiative brought significant enhancements to buildings including Central Classroom, PE, Arts and the Jordan Student Success Building.
This initiative addresses deferred maintenance and outdated infrastructure across multiple buildings, ensuring a scalable, secure and modern network to support the University’s evolving needs.
