Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Fall 2024 Commencement will take place in December at a new location: the Colorado Convention Center. The University plans to return to the Denver Coliseum next year.
The Office of University Events shared some of their top tips for navigating the venue on the big day.
1. Prepare for single-level seating
Unlike the arena-style seating at the Coliseum, the Colorado Convention Center will feature single-level seating. The layout means those seated toward the back will be farther from the stage, but additional televisions will be set up throughout the venue to ensure that everyone has a great view of the ceremony.
2. Plan ahead for parking
All marshals, guests and grads should allow extra time to navigate outside and inside the building, as there are multiple events taking place that day. Our dedicated marshals will receive specific parking instructions for their complimentary parking space closer to the ceremony. A note to our guests and grads: It’s a good idea to plan extra time to find a metered space or parking lot nearby.
3. Expect security protocols
Similar to last year, all marshals, guests, grads and platform party members will go through a formal security checkpoint. The checkpoints are located at the Convention Center’s entrances on 14th and Stout streets. Arriving early will ensure a smooth entry process.
4. Celebrate new degree honorees
MSU Denver will honor recipients of the Associate of General Studies degree during Fall Commencement. This addition comes as part of the Colorado Re-Engaged (CORE) Initiative, providing new opportunities for reengaged students to celebrate their academic achievements alongside bachelor’s and master’s degree earners.
5. Look for wayfinding signage and support
The Convention Center is a large building, and MSU Denver will be sharing the space with other events on the same day. To assist with navigation, the University will provide enhanced signage to guide guests to Exhibit Halls C and D, where the ceremonies will take place. Marshals will also be on hand to offer directions and assistance.
“While the location has changed, the same level of excitement, pride and tradition that defines MSU Denver’s Commencement ceremony will remain,” said Courtney West, assistant director of Event Marketing and Communications at MSU Denver.
“We’re so excited to celebrate this milestone for our graduates,” said Jessica Fernandez, senior director of University Events. “With your help, we can make this day memorable for the deserving students who’ve worked so hard to reach the Commencement stage.”
