Jinseup “Ted” Shin, chair of the Department of Industrial Design, has been appointed to serve as interim dean of the College of Aerospace, Computing, Engineering and Design after Provost Matt Makley, Ph.D., announced this week that Jeffrey Newcomer, Ph.D., is no longer serving in the role.
In a message to CACED faculty and staff, Makley thanked Newcomer for his service and said Shin’s “steady leadership will help ensure continuity.”
“We are prioritizing a smooth transition for our students, faculty and staff members that ensures CACED’s success,” Makley said.
“I also want to recognize the commitment each of you brings to CACED every day,” he wrote in his message to faculty and staff. “Your dedication to our students, your scholarship and your collaborative spirit are the heart of this college.”
MSU Denver senior leaders are coordinating the next steps in the transition, including identifying interim leadership for the Department of Industrial Design and providing the college with timely updates. Newcomer, former dean of CACED, will serve MSU Denver as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Engineering. Shin will remain in the interim role until at least next summer as the University prepares to conduct a national search.
