Metropolitan State University of Denver employees asked for more ways to volunteer through the workplace, and now they have an entire week. Roadrunners Give Back Week, which launches this fall as a direct response to faculty and staff interest in service and civic engagement, is open for registration.

Running Sept. 29 through Oct. 4, the weeklong initiative will connect MSU Denver staff and faculty members and alumni with a dozen Denver-area nonprofits for hands-on volunteer opportunities such as food packing and neighborhood cleanup. The event is organized by the University’s Office of Government and External Affairs.

“Community is a core value at MSU Denver,” said Mike A. Ramsey, director of External Affairs. “This volunteer initiative is an opportunity for us to step into that value alongside others we work with and serve on a daily basis.”

Volunteer sites were selected based on their existing relationships with the University, their alignment with MSU Denver’s mission and values and their demonstrated impact in areas such as health equity, youth development, food justice and sustainability.

Participating organizations include:

  • The Auraria Sustainable Campus Program
  • Denver Health
  • Denver Inner City Parish
  • Extreme Community Makeover
  • Food for Thought
  • Girls Inc. of Metro Denver
  • The Greenway Foundation
  • The Jefferson Center for Mental Health
  • Judi’s House
  • Re:Vision
  • Tepeyac Community Health Center
  • Village Exchange Center

Employees can sign up as individuals or in groups. Volunteer shifts are available each day, and several sites are within walking distance of campus. Before registering, participants should coordinate with their supervisors to ensure office coverage. No PTO is required.

All volunteers will be invited to a celebration event this year to connect, reflect and celebrate the importance of giving back.
