Faculty and staff members and student employees are invited to help launch the new academic year with connection and celebration at the annual President’s Welcome Back event Aug. 28. This fall’s gathering marks the beginning of a yearlong celebration honoring 60 years of Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Hosted by President Janine Davidson, Ph.D., the event offers an opportunity for colleagues to reunite after the summer, hear about the University’s latest priorities and celebrate MSU Denver’s legacy of transformation. The program will feature remarks from Davidson and other University leaders and will spotlight milestones in MSU Denver’s 60-year history.
Celebrating six decades of Roadrunner pride all year long
In 1965, the University opened its doors in downtown Denver to a diverse student body determined to transform their lives through higher education. Since then, more than 112,000 graduates have gone on to shape Colorado’s future as Changemakers in their fields.

“Sixty years of excellence is something we are all proud of,” Davidson said. “This celebration will honor our shared legacy and renew our commitment to ensuring that every student has a pathway to personal and professional success.”
Employees can expect to see this historic anniversary reflected throughout the academic year. Beginning this fall, the Early Bird will highlight faculty and staff members who have helped shape the University’s growth. The inaugural issue of MSU Denver Magazine, formerly RED Magazine, will be dedicated to the milestone, with stories about the University’s history and alumni who exemplify the excellence and impact of an MSU Denver education. Events, multimedia stories and other commemorations are also in development, led by a campuswide committee dedicated to honoring the past while looking toward the future.
