Promoting equity in education is the driving force behind MSU Denver alumna Roya Brown’s mobile classroom (pictured). The big blue bus serves 48 preschoolers in underserved communities around Colorado who have limited access to early–education programs.
“To me, equity is access and affordability, and this is one of the things I learned at MSU (Denver),” said Brown, whose interest in education was sparked when her son began struggling in the traditional school system. She chose to leave her engineering career and returned to school at MSU Denver to pursue a degree in math and teaching. Since then, she founded the nonprofit You Be You Early Learning and has become a key player in Colorado’s push to remove barriers to high-quality early-childhood education.
