Year-end evaluations launch next month, providing deans and professional-staff members with the opportunity to reflect on key accomplishments, review progress against set goals and discuss professional-development opportunities. Not only that, but this year’s process also will continue to reflect Metropolitan State University of Denver’s commitment to advancing leadership excellence through the integration of the Leadership Competency Framework.

In an enhancement this year, the framework has been expanded to provide additional insight on the behaviors that correspond with each leader level.

“Employees, regardless of title, demonstrate leadership qualities every day within their individual roles,” said Imani Morning, director for Leadership and Organizational Engagement. “All staff will benefit from knowing what leadership looks like and how to successfully demonstrate the skills, behaviors and capabilities needed to succeed.”

What’s changing?

As in years past, employees will have the opportunity to view, comment on and rate themselves (and their direct reports) against their SMART goals and the skills in the Leadership Competency Framework during the year-end evaluation process. This year, the system will highlight not only the competencies, such as collaboration, equity, belonging and community, innovation and more, but the behaviors associated with each, clarifying how MSU Denver defines success. There is no additional step to complete; the added information is for reference only and designed to solicit more productive and aligned feedback.

What’s next?

Deans and professional-staff members will receive an email from Human Resources on May 19 announcing the opening of evaluations. Employees should plan to dedicate around 30 minutes each for self-assessment, performance discussion and the written evaluation. Evaluations are due by June 30.

In preparation, employees are encouraged to:

  • Visit the Performance Management website to learn more about the performance-evaluation process, access job aids and view answers to frequently asked questions.
  • Access Workday Learning to find performance-management training resources and videos.

Additional details will be published on the Early Bird site once self-evaluations launch. Questions? Contact your senior HR partner.
