Metropolitan State University of Denver kicked off National First-Generation Week Nov. 8, commemorating the anniversary of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and celebrating the success of first-generation college students, faculty members and staff members.
The First-Generation Initiatives Program, housed in the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion, serves as a resource hub for the first-generation students who make up over 58% of MSU Denver undergraduates. The program’s mission is to increase retention and graduation rates for first-generation students by building community, serving as advocates, developing meaningful programs and more.
Investing in first-generation students
This year, the MSU Denver community can be an influential part of this mission by making a gift to the First-Generation Initiatives Program through Nov. 30. The first 10 donors will receive a swag bag. Your generosity will provide first-generation students with access to the following:
- Workshops addressing professional development and the unique obstacles facing first-generation college students.
- Scholarship funds that help with tuition, books and living expenses.
- A biannual first-generation graduation ceremony celebrating the achievement of being among the first generation in their family to complete a four-year degree.
Investing in first-generation students at MSU Denver ensures that they have the resources they need to rise and reach their goals of earning a degree and serving as leaders in their communities.
