MSU Denver Magazine launches with new look, renewed purpose

Formerly RED Magazine, the rebranded print publication aligns with the University’s 60th anniversary and Roadrunners Rise campaign.

A familiar publication is turning the page to its next chapter.

This fall, RED Magazine has officially rebranded as MSU Denver Magazine, a refreshed print publication designed to deepen connections with alumni and better support the University’s engagement and fundraising goals.

Scheduled to arrive in mailboxes this month, the Fall 2025 issue features a new design, more content and more opportunities to get involved.

“Surveys consistently show that alumni who read their university’s magazine are more likely to stay connected, whether by donating, attending events or recommending the University to future Roadrunners,” said John Arnold, senior director of communications at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

The new name clarifies the magazine’s mission and audience, distinguishing it from RED, MSU Denver’s online newsroom, which focuses on issues of broader public interest. The rebrand also aligns with two major institutional milestones: the University’s 60th anniversary and the public phase of Roadrunners Rise, MSU Denver’s largest-ever fundraising campaign.

MSU Denver Magazine’s recurring features includes “Cool classes.”

What’s new in MSU Denver Magazine?

With this relaunch, the magazine will grow from 36 to 48 pages, offering more space for Roadrunner success stories and opportunities for alumni engagement. Among the new features are:

  • Expanded Class Notes, including photos
  • Increased alumni and donor profiles
  • Interactive prompts and contests
  • Recurring features such as Cool Classes and Roadrunner Roosts
  • An upgraded perfect-bound format for a more durable, polished feel

Additionally, MSU Denver Magazine has joined the PrintReleaf program, which plants trees based on the amount of paper used through the global Certified Reforestation Project.

The rebrand was led by University Communications and Marketing in partnership with University Advancement and the magazine’s Editorial Advisory Board, with strategic guidance from Capstone Communications, a firm specializing in alumni publications.

National data backs up the value of this refreshed approach. According to the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, after reading their alumni magazine:

  • 38% of readers made a donation.
  • 32% recommended their alma mater to a family member or potential student.
MSU Denver Magazine features reader feedback in engaging content.

Where to find it

The print issue will be mailed to approximately 100,000 alumni and faculty and staff members and will also be available in magazine racks around campus, including in the Jordan Student Success Building and Tivoli Student Union.

A digital version will continue to be hosted on MSU Denver’s ISSUU page, and select stories will be featured on the RED newsroom. The magazine will also be promoted via a dedicated alumni email and University social-media channels.
