Today is Research Administrators Day, an opportunity to recognize the vital contributions of Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Office of Sponsored Research and Programs, Sponsored Programs Accounting and Compliance and those who help in the colleges.

Research administrators’ hard work in supporting MSU Denver’s research efforts continue to open doors for faculty members, students and the University. In the 2024 fiscal year, OSRP secured over $12 million in sponsored funding, a 50% increase from the previous year. SPAC now manages over $50 million in active awards.

This funding has allowed faculty members to contribute more broadly to the national research agenda of finding groundbreaking solutions for cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, adult literacy, behavioral health and STEM education while providing hands-on experience for students, preparing them as the next generation of innovators and inventors.

Looking ahead, fiscal 2025 already shows continued momentum.

“I anticipate this upward trend to continue,” said Laneika K. Musalini, director of OSRP. “We’ve already secured several awards since the new fiscal year began on July 1.”

Laneika Musalini

Musalini credits the increase in successful grant proposals to a more customer-focused approach in assisting faculty. Additionally, her position was vacant for a year before she joined last September. Filling her role allowed the team to fully concentrate on supporting faculty with proposals and budget development, leading to a rise in submissions.

Faculty members interested in applying for grants can learn more by visiting the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs website or by exploring grant funding resources.
