COO Larry Sampler shares updates on the projects, which will revitalize the West Classroom Building.

Nursing Simulation & Skills Suite.

Dear Roadrunners,

I hope everyone’s fall semester is off to a good start.

I’m excited to announce that we are making good progress with several renovation and improvement projects across campus, including the new Simulation Lab space, which was announced in a previous Early Bird article. This cutting-edge teaching-and-learning space for future health professionals and leaders will revitalize the West Classroom Building and will help MSU Denver lead the way to a healthier and more equitable Colorado.

Health Institute Simulation Labs progress to date:

Formation of Design Advisory Committee (open to anyone interested in the Sim Labs project): In its most recent monthly meeting, the team members (listed in the previous Early Bird article) reviewed the project objectives, department accreditation needs, stakeholder-group progress and the high-level schedule.

President’s Reception: This gathering was an opportunity to engage with the community, industry and donors that have advocated for additional funding at MSU Denver.

Design Process: The design team has been busy behind the scenes developing renderings of the renovated spaces. They show a vision of a one-of-a-kind Health Institute that provides solutions to develop a diverse, talented and highly skilled workforce and allow for program growth and enhanced teaching and learning environments.

The project is currently in the schematic-design phase, which offers a general overview of a project’s basic features and construction-cost estimates. During this phase, the project team determines the best way to use the project budget. The team is working closely with the academic departments and registrar to confirm that program intent is being met.

Construction Manager/General Contractor Selection: The mandatory presubmittal conference and tour was well-attended by local contractors. The team will bring on a general-contractor partner very soon.

Stay tuned for periodic updates on this significant and exciting project and submit any questions or feedback to Leone Dick, chief of staff to the COO/vice president for Administration and interim co-director of Planning, Design and Construction.

Sincerely,

Larry Sampler
