The new process reduces emails and increases efficiency and Worktag accuracy.

Metropolitan State University of Denver Cost Center budget managers can now directly initiate costing allocations in Workday instead of emailing the Payroll team for assistance. The new process will increase efficiency and accuracy, ensuring that Worktag information is entered and approved on time.

Cost Center budget managers can now control the Worktags they use, and changes can’t be made without their approval. This will reduce the need for manual payroll accounting adjustments related to default and costing allocations.

What’s new for:

  • Hiring managers: When creating a job-requisition request for a new position, hiring managers will only provide the Cost Center and proceed as usual.
  • Employees: Employees will have only a Cost Center as the Worktag in their default, and each will have a costing allocation where their payroll expenses are charged. After September payroll closes, fiscal managers and managers should check their budgets to ensure that their employees are charged correctly.
  • Managers and principal investigators: All managers and PIs must communicate directly with their Cost Center budget manager if their employee’s Worktag needs to be updated.
  • Payroll team: Payroll will still enter and maintain the Work Study costing allocations.

The Office of the Controller hosted training sessions on the change and developed a related job aid to support all employees through the transition.
