Metropolitan State University of Denver invites students, faculty members, staff members and prospective students to a one-of-a-kind evening at the Denver Art Museum on April 15.

MSU Denver Night at the DAM celebrates the partnership between the University and the museum with a fun-filled event that blends creativity, conversation and community. This year’s program includes student-led tours, interactive artmaking stations, games and prizes and a roundtable discussion exploring the ethics and practices of museum collections.

“This is a chance for the MSU Denver community to engage with art in a more personal and playful way and to see the impact our students are already making in the field,” said Jill Mollenhauer, Ph.D., professor of Art History.

Attendees can explore the entire museum, enjoy delicious food and giveaways and participate in a panel titled “Whose Art Is It Anyway?: Collecting, Display and Repatriation,” featuring experts from MSU Denver and the Denver Art Museum. Panelists will reflect on how art is acquired and displayed and how institutions can thoughtfully engage with issues of ownership and cultural heritage.

Partnership cultivates creativity and career connections

The University’s partnership with the DAM centers on the Emerging Professionals Docent Program, which trains MSU Denver students to lead tours for K-12 students while exploring career paths in the museum field. Interns engage directly with museum professionals and gain hands-on experience exploring the histories, ideologies and ethics of museums. In addition, the museum provides free access to its collections for classroom teaching, directly supporting MSU Denver’s Art History curriculum.

The event is sponsored by the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion, Classroom to Career Hub (C2Hub), College of Letters, Arts and Sciences Dean’s office and the Art department.
