Accessibility can feel daunting for many content creators, especially when it requires major changes to a product that has already taken several hours or days to complete. Therefore, the Instructional Accessibility Group, part of the Center for Teaching, Learning and Design at Metropolitan State University of Denver, invites faculty and staff members to complete the Proactive Accessibility Certification and learn how to incorporate accessibility into the design process from start to finish.

The PAC focuses on skills, tools and knowledge for creating and maintaining accessibility of electronic and information technology in adherence with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

The program consists of six 90-minute sessions:

  1. Foundations: Exploring the history of ableism, accessibility and disability laws.
  2. Documents: Exploring the elements of accessible documents and how to create them.
  3. Images: Exploring the nuances of conveying the value of images in multiple ways.
  4. Posters and Presentations: Exploring the elements of accessible posters and presentations in static and live contexts.
  5. Audio and Video: Exploring the elements of accessible multimedia and effective closed captions.
  6. Web and Social Media: Applying the Principles of Web Accessibility to online and social-media content

The PAC also has a Canvas component to help support those enrolled in the program. If you have already completed the PAC and wish to have access to the Canvas courseemail the Instructional Accessibility Group

All sessions are held virtually via Microsoft Teams. You will receive your certificate of completion once you have attended all six sessions and completed the certification assessment. You do not have to be enrolled in the certification program to attend any of the PAC sessions. You can also enroll in the certification program after completing one or more sessions. Complete the certification and brag about your six-PAC!

Whether you’re auditing a session or completing the program, the PAC will help all attendees become part of a culture of accessibility.
