Rowdy giving a high five to two people with backs turned

MSU Denver Total Rewards program

The Total Rewards program at MSU Denver revamped retirement income options, guaranteeing growth during working years plus the option for continued income in retirement.

As a result, TIAA awarded the program its Pensions & Investments Excellence and Innovation Award for 2025. This recognizes the University’s bold changes to save employees money without compromising quality, bringing it above its peer benchmark in a competitive market over a four-month period.

MSU Denver Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers

Student leaders from the MSU Denver Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and Classroom to Career Hub attended the SPHE 2025 National Convention in Philadelphia from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1, thanks to a sponsorship by Southwest Airlines.

In its first appearance at the convention, the University was represented by Nicole Mendoza, Rebeca Saavedra, Isaac Cepeda-Morales, Martin Jimenez, Maximus Aemilius Sanchez, Andrea Arreola-Soria, Mireya Perez, Unberto Guzman Hernandez and Vicente Gonzales-Ruiz. Their focus at the event was on academic and career goals, improving soft skills, facing impostor syndrome, and networking.

Corey Sell, Ph.D., School of Education

Corey R. Sell, professor of Elementary Education, co-wrote a study published in Teachers College Record in December.

The article examines how PK–12 teachers bring critical consciousness into social justice teaching. Grounded in a university-district partnership, it highlights a range of teacher perspectives and practices.

James Aubrey, Ph.D., College of Letters, Arts and Sciences

James Aubrey, Ph.D., professor of English, leads the Study Abroad class The Cinema of India. Aubrey recently purchased a painting from a Warli Tribe member and donated it to the Denver Art Museum.

Aubrey acquired the painting from the artist, Prakash Pitole, who visited the Study Abroad class during an excursion in 2016.

Becky Prater, MBA, Department of Management

Becky Prater, senior lecturer of Entrepreneurship, is the author of the paper “Teaching Entrepreneurship as a Living Practice: Integrating Creativity, Intuition, and Imagination.” The paper was accepted for presentation at the Small Business Institute annual conference being held in Florida in April.

The Small Business Institute Journal publishes scholarly research articles in the fields of small business management, entrepreneurship and field-based learning.
