Metropolitan State University of Denver has opened its benefits open-enrollment period for full-time faculty and staff members. It’s the annual opportunity to review and adjust benefits selections for 2025 without experiencing a qualified life event, such as marriage or the birth of a child.

This year’s enrollment period, which runs through Nov. 22, highlights MSU Denver’s continued commitment to competitive benefits, with minimal premium changes and no significant alterations to existing plans.

MSU Denver’s Total Rewards benefits package is designed to provide comprehensive support and peace of mind for employees, said Human Resources’ Amanda Berry, director of Total Rewards.

Amanda Berry.

“We strive to provide benefits that not only meet but exceed industry standards,” Berry said, emphasizing the value of MSU Denver’s offerings in a challenging market.

MSU Denver’s benefits package covers essentials such as medical, dental and vision insurance, along with tuition reimbursement, retirement plans and options for long-term disability and supplemental insurance.

The 2025 open enrollment is classified as “passive,” meaning employees’ current selections will automatically roll over unless they choose to make changes. However, employees interested in Flexible Spending Accounts must actively reenroll to retain these benefits for the coming year.

Minimal changes for medical and dental plans

The medical plan for 2025 will see an overall premium increase of 5.9%, the result of rising health care costs. That translates to an additional $7 to $22 per month for employees, depending on their plan tier. To help offset cost increases for employees, the University has boosted the amount it contributes to premiums, from 74.5% to 75%.

Dental-plan premiums increased 5.2% overall, but employees will see a slight decrease in their cost because the University increased its contribution to plan premiums from 67% to 70%. The decrease for employees will range from 61 cents to $1.58 per month.

“No one wants to see an increase, but we’re proud we could minimize this impact and retain the plans our employees value,” Berry said.

There are no premium or plan changes for vision insurance.

Flexible Spending Accounts and optional benefits

Employees must re-enroll if they wish to participate in Flexible Spending Accounts for 2025. The maximum allowable contribution limits are $3,300 for medical FSAs and $5,000 for dependent-care FSAs.

Optional benefits, including life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, and long-term disability, remain available through the University’s partnership with SunLife. These voluntary options allow employees to customize their benefits packages to fit personal needs and family circumstances, Berry said.

Enrollment assistance and resources

Employees can access a new highlights video developed in collaboration with Anthem, providing a convenient overview of changes and available options. In addition, the Human Resources Total Rewards team will be available for virtual one-on-one appointments throughout the open-enrollment period to assist with individual questions.

All adjustments made during this enrollment period will take effect on Jan. 1. Employees can make changes directly in Workday, MSU Denver’s HR platform, where enrollment tasks are accessible through the platform’s inbox feature.
